This past Sunday we went to the 3rd playoff game between the Braves and the Giants. My dad took us all and we had such a great time! This was Jack's first Major League Baseball game, and we were excited to take him to experience something like that. We even had a Braves outfit to put him in, and even though it was a size 6-9 months, it fit him! He was definitely the cutest Braves fan we'd ever seen! Here he is getting ready for Papa to pick us up.
We got to Atlanta with a little over an hour left until the first pitch, so once we found a parking spot, we headed towards Turner Field. Our seats were in the top row of the upper deck, but right above home plate, so they were pretty good seats. Jack enjoyed all the pre-game festivities, especially while holding his new foam tomahawk! He even would wave it around and do his own version of the Braves chant! :-)
Jack was very good throughout the whole game, but we did find different ways to entertain him (since he doesn't quite understand baseball yet!) We were sitting on the very top row, but there was a concrete walkway behind us, so several times one of us would take him up there and walk around with him. We also took him down to the concession stand area so he could walk around some and stay busy. However, since he wasn't getting his normal afternoon nap, and since he was moving around a bunch, he started to get very sleepy towards the 5-6 innings. He laid his head down on Kurt for a few minutes, with paci and froggy, and even closed his eyes a couple of times, but then the crowd would scream and it would jolt him and keep him from sleeping. He did realize how much he loves coke zero, though (drinking it through the straw also kept him occupied), so we think that caffeine helped give him his second wind to get through the rest of the game. :-)
During the bottom of the 8th inning, the Braves were still down 1-0 to the Giants, but then Eric Hinske hit a 2-run homerun to go up 2-1! The whole stadium went wild, but Jack stayed calm in Papa's arms the entire time! We thought Papa holding him was the good luck charm, until the Braves couldn't get the last strike of the last out in the top of the 9th, so Kurt and I took turns holding him, and neither worked. The Braves gave up 2 runs and couldn't make up for it. It was so sad to have that comeback, and then have it taken away.
Even though the Braves lost, the whole day was so much fun, and we were so glad Jack got to experience something so great and memorable. We really appreciate Papa taking us, and we loved spending the whole day with him. Thanks again, Papa, and we love you!
