Another Fun Auburn Weekend

Last weekend started off with Mommy and Jack relaxing at home Friday morning. He is happiest once he's gotten his morning milk, so we sat together watching Hi-5 while he drank his warm milk. He was in such a good mood I decided to snap a couple of pictures!

No hands!

Waving "Hi!"

Saying "Hi!"

We went down to Auburn later that afternoon after Daddy got off work and met Granna and Poppy at a new Mexican restaurant called El Dorado. It was very good, except the cheese dip (Jack's favorite part) was a little too spicy, so that was disappointing! Jack still enjoyed it, at least he did until 6 am the next morning when he started throwing up! :-( Jack threw up 6 times from 6 - 7:30! Poor baby! He seemed to feel fine except for the times he was actually throwing up, and he wasn't running a fever, so when he didn't throw up anymore after 7:30, we thought he was fine. This was the same day as the annual Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast in Opelika, plus the Garden in the Park, plus it was Poppy's birthday, too! We hated Jack's morning started off so badly, but we are so thankful he got better! Once we got to the pancake breakfast, we had to stand in a very long line, but the pancakes were definitely worth it! Jack even ate a whole one all by himself, and this was his first time to experience syrup! He loved every bite!

After breakfast, we walked across the street for the Garden in the Park. They had a bunch of tents set up with stuff to buy, plus we saw our friends The Taylors selling clothes to raise money to adopt a baby! :-) We wanted Jack to be able to ride the Rocky Brook Rocket Choo Choo Train, but it broke down after just one ride! Hopefully it will be up and running the next time we go. We did make the video the Opelika-Auburn News put together showing the highlights of the Garden in the Park! We are about 2 minutes in.

We had to put Jack down for a nap soon after, so we ran a couple errands, but then headed back to Granna and Poppy's house. Jack needed to get some rest so he would be energized for Poppy's birthday party that night!

For the party, we grilled out hamburgers and hotdogs, plus Granna made some mac n cheese and baked beans, and then we had brownies, homemade icecream, and Gigi's cupcakes! It was such a yummy dinner, and we were glad to celebrate Poppy's birthday! Jack still wanted to watch Elmo during the party, and he even did his famous dance to one of the songs called "Zydeco"! It was hilarious!

Sunday we had lunch with Granna, Poppy, and Mimi at Country's Barbecue. Jack didn't sit well for long, so we entertained him in their huge rocking chair! He loved it!

After lunch we went to see Granny, Granddaddy, and Pops on our way home. We had to check on Pops since he's had a partial knee-surgery (long story), but he has to give himself an IV to clear up an infection in his knee, and then when that's clear he will have the full knee surgery. He seemed to be doing ok, but we still need him to get better! We always have a great time in Auburn, and we can't wait until the next time we go back! Thanks to Granna and Poppy for letting us stay with them again, plus all the yummy meals they provided!!

This Little Light of Mine

This song has a couple of meanings for me. The first, of course, is talking about Jesus as our "light" and how we should let Him shine. We need to let Jesus shine through us in all that we say and do, and it's more precious when an innocent child talks about it. We talk to Jack about Jesus daily, and how much He loves Jack, and we loved teaching him this song (with Mama Becky's help) so that he can learn more about the light of Jesus.

The second meaning to me is how Jack is my little light. Jack is the most precious little boy, and he makes my life brighter each and everyday. I'm so blessed and grateful to the Lord to be able to be his mommy (he calls me mommy now!). He means so much to me, and I am so in love everyday watching him grow and develop, and learn so many new things! He amazes his daddy and me all the time with how much he knows and has learned. He is starting to count 1-10 really well, he sings lots of songs that he has learned from his Baby Praise group, his family, and favorite shows, and so many other things! He is talking so much everyday, and we love having conversations with him, whatever he wants to talk about! :-)

Here is a video of him and his most recent song he loves to sing, This Little Light of Mine:

Gash Update

Jack's gash is doing much better, and all of the stitches have fallen out! It's starting to form a little scar, but it doesn't look bad at all! We are so glad it's healing well!

Tubes and Adenoids Surgery

Even though Jack had a traumatizing Friday the week before, we still kept his surgery date this past Friday, the 25th, to get tubes put in and adenoids taken out. Jack has had several ear infections since he's been born, and a lot of congestion and draining, so our Pediatrician referred us to a Pediatric ENT for surgery.

We had to be at Children's South that morning at 6 am for a 7 am surgery, so we stayed at Mama Becky and Daddy Mer's house the night before since they live only 4 minutes away! We appreciate all they did to help us and Jack prepare for surgery.

When they called us back they had to first get his weight and vitals. The nurse didn't get a great read of his blood pressure and heartbeat, because Jack was very upset and wiggly, but she said she would make do with what she had!

Once we got back to his room, we saw they had decorated his door with a Mickey Mouse sign that said "Jackson" on it! What a neat way to personalize it for him! We also had to change his clothes to put him in a gown, and yes, it ties in the back like an adult gown does! He looked so cute running around with his diaper hanging out in the back!

The hallway was lined with all kinds of riding toys for the kids to play with while they wait to be called back to surgery! Jack had a lot of fun and had no idea what was about to happen to him, so that was very good. He even got to play with his new friend Mallory who we met at the first appointment a few weeks before.

Once they took him back for surgery, it was literally 10 minutes later when the doctor came and told us everything went smoothly! It was a lot faster than we thought it would be, but we were so grateful everything went well. It took about 15-20 more minutes for Jack to wake up, and he woke up very upset! He cried and screamed a lot, plus kept trying to kick off his IV that was in his leg! We both tried to comfort him, but he was acting too angry and upset. We finally had to ask the nurse to take out the IV, even though he hadn't had much to drink, because we knew he wouldn't be ok until that was out.

He wasn't even that happy when we got outside and into the car, but he was exhausted, too, and just needed some sleep. He watched his favorite Elmo DVD on the way home, and once we got home he slept for 2.5 hours! We were glad to rest, too, since we'd been up since 5!

The rest of the day was a little rough for his recovery, especially since we had to start doing ear drops 3 times a day, but we were so thankful to have Granna and Poppy staying with us the whole weekend to help. We appreciate all they did to help make Jack's recovery go smoothly! God is so good to take such good care of our sweet boy!
